Digital Download Licensing Terms

What You Are Buying

When you purchase a digital download from The Haus Of Legends, you are purchasing a license to use the file.

You are not purchasing the copyright to the artwork.

Unless a product specifically says otherwise, digital artwork sold through The Haus Of Legends comes with a Personal Use License.

That means you may enjoy it, print it, and use it personally—but you may not sell it, redistribute it, or use it commercially.

1. What You May Do

With a Personal Use License, you may:

Download and store the digital file for your own personal use.
Make backup copies for yourself.
Print the artwork for display in your home, office, studio, or other personal space.
Have a professional printing service make a personal print for you.
Print the artwork on paper, canvas, or another appropriate material for your own use.
Use a printed copy in a personal, non-commercial gift or project.

You may make more than one personal print for your own use unless the individual product says otherwise.

2. Resizing and Printing

Each digital artwork is provided at a specific file size and resolution. The product description will identify the original pixel dimensions and the maximum recommended print size.

You may reduce the size of the artwork when necessary for personal printing.

You may also make minor cropping adjustments when needed to fit a frame, paper size, or printing format.

You may not enlarge or upscale the artwork beyond its original dimensions. This includes using software, AI tools, interpolation, or other methods to create a larger or higher-resolution version of the file.

The maximum print size listed with the product is the largest size authorized under the Personal Use License.

Please preserve the original composition whenever reasonably possible.

3. What You May Not Do

A Personal Use License does not allow you to:

Sell the digital file.
Give or send the digital file to other people.
Upload the file to a file-sharing service.
Redistribute it online.
Resell printed copies.
Use it on products you sell.
Use it in advertising or commercial marketing.
Use it as a business logo or brand identity.
License or sublicense it to someone else.
Claim that you created the original artwork.
Remove a signature, copyright notice, watermark, or other ownership information when one is included.
Turn the artwork into an NFT, tokenized asset, or similar commercial digital product.
Include it in a stock-image library, template library, design-resource collection, or downloadable asset package.

Purchasing a digital download does not give you permission to make money from the artwork.

4. AI Training and Datasets

Purchasing a digital artwork does not give you permission to use it for artificial-intelligence or machine-learning training.

You may not knowingly include a Haus Of Legends digital artwork in:

AI-training datasets.
Machine-learning datasets.
Generative-model training.
Fine-tuning datasets.
Commercial image datasets.
Automated image libraries created for model development.

A purchase is permission to use the artwork under the license you received. It is not permission to use the artwork as training material.

5. Printing Through a Third Party

You may send the file to a professional printer, photo lab, or similar service when necessary to create a personal print for yourself.

That does not give the printing company permission to keep, resell, redistribute, or independently use the artwork.

Whenever possible, please use a reputable printing service and delete uploaded files from that service when they are no longer needed.

6. Personal Gifts

You may use a personally printed copy of the artwork as a gift.

For example, you may print a piece of artwork and give the finished print to a friend or family member.

You may not give that person the original digital file for them to reproduce or distribute.

You may not produce quantities of prints or products for distribution simply by describing them as gifts.

7. Copyright and Ownership

Buying a digital download does not transfer ownership of the artwork or its copyright.

The Haus Of Legends, Iain Smillie, and/or the applicable rights holder retain the rights they hold in the artwork and creative material, to the extent those rights are protected by law.

Your purchase gives you permission to use the work under this license.

It does not transfer the underlying intellectual-property rights to you.

8. Commercial Use Requires Separate Permission

Want to use an artwork commercially?

Ask us.

We are open to discussing commercial licensing for appropriate projects.

Commercial use can include things such as advertising, marketing campaigns, publishing, merchandise, packaging, commercial websites, products for resale, business promotions, and other revenue-generating projects.

A commercial license is separate from the Personal Use License and may have different terms, limitations, and fees.

9. Educational and Classroom Use

A Personal Use License does not automatically include permission to distribute the digital file to a class, school, organization, workshop, or group.

If you would like to use Haus Of Legends artwork or educational material with multiple students or participants, please contact us about educational or group licensing.

10. Social Media

Purchasing a digital artwork does not automatically give you permission to upload the full-resolution digital file to social media or other public websites.

If you want to share something you purchased, we recommend sharing a photograph of the finished artwork displayed in your space or linking people to the original Haus Of Legends product page.

That lets you enjoy and share your purchase without distributing the downloadable source file.

11. If Someone Else Prints It for You

If you provide the file to a printer or another person solely to help make your personal print, you remain responsible for making sure the file is used only for that purpose.

Please do not send the digital file to someone simply so they can make their own copy.

If they would like their own copy, please send them to The Haus Of Legends.

12. Breaking the License

If the digital artwork is used outside the permissions provided by this license, your permission to use it may end.

If that happens, you must stop the unauthorized use and remove or destroy copies being used in violation of the license when reasonably possible.

Serious copyright or intellectual-property violations may also be addressed through the legal remedies available to the applicable rights holder.

We deliberately do not fill this section with threatening dollar amounts or worst-case penalties.

The simple rule is enough:

Please respect the artwork and the rights of the people who created it.

13. Digital Sales Are Final

Digital products are final sale.

Digital downloads cannot be returned once purchased or delivered.

If you experience a technical problem receiving or accessing a file you purchased, please contact us and we will help determine what happened.

14. Individual Products May Have Different Licenses

Most Haus Of Legends digital artwork uses the Personal Use License described here.

Some products, educational resources, publications, collections, or future offerings may include different permissions.

When an individual product includes its own license, the license provided with that product controls how that particular item may be used.

Please read the product description before purchasing.

15. Questions Are Welcome

If you are not sure whether something you want to do is allowed, please ask before doing it.

We would much rather answer a licensing question than leave someone confused about what they can and cannot do.
