Artists Deserve Respect

The Haus Of Legends is built around art, creativity, education, and the people who make things.

We respect copyright, and we expect people who use our website and community to respect it too.

This policy explains what to do if you believe copyrighted material appears on The Haus Of Legends without permission, what we may do after receiving a valid notice, and what you can do if your own material is removed by mistake.

We have written this in plain language because copyright procedures should be understandable.

1. Please Only Share What You Have the Right to Share

If you post artwork, writing, photographs, music, images, comments, or other creative material to The Haus Of Legends, you are responsible for making sure you have the right to share it.

That may mean you created it yourself, you own the copyright, you have permission from the copyright owner, you have a valid license, or the use is otherwise permitted by law.

Do not knowingly post someone else's protected work and claim it as your own.

2. Your Artwork Stays Yours

Uploading your own artwork to The Haus Of Legends does not transfer your copyright to us.

The limited permissions we need to operate the website are explained in our Terms of Use.

Those permissions do not give The Haus Of Legends ownership of your artwork.

3. Our Registered DMCA Designated Agent

The Haus Of Legends has registered a designated agent with the U.S. Copyright Office to receive notices of claimed copyright infringement.

4. If You Believe Your Copyright Is Being Infringed

If you believe material on The Haus Of Legends infringes a copyright that you own or are authorized to represent, you may send a written notice to our DMCA Designated Agent.

To help us process the notice, please include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. If several works are involved, you may provide a representative list.
  3. Identification of the material you believe is infringing and enough information for us to locate it. A direct URL is especially helpful.
  4. Your contact information, including an address, telephone number, and email address where available.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

5. What We Do After Receiving a Valid Notice

We take legitimate copyright complaints seriously.

When we receive a notice that substantially meets the legal requirements, we will review it and respond as appropriate. When required, we may remove or disable access to the material identified in the notice.

If the material was posted by a community member, we will take reasonable steps to notify that person that the material was removed or disabled.

6. If Your Material Was Removed by Mistake

Copyright disputes are not always simple. Material may sometimes be removed because of mistake, misidentification, valid permission, licensing, or another lawful use.

If your content was removed because of a DMCA notice and you believe the removal was a mistake, you may send our DMCA Designated Agent a written counter-notice.

A counter-notice should include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and where it appeared before removal.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address, and telephone number.
  5. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate federal district court and will accept service of process from the person who submitted the original notice, or that person's agent, as required by the DMCA.

If you are unsure about the legal effect of a counter-notice, you may wish to speak with a qualified attorney before sending one.

7. What Happens After a Counter-Notice

If we receive a valid counter-notice, we may send a copy to the person who submitted the original removal request.

Under the DMCA process, the disputed material generally may be restored after no fewer than 10 and no more than 14 business days unless the original complaining party tells us that a court action has been filed seeking to prevent the material from being restored.

We will follow the process required by applicable law.

8. Repeat Copyright Infringement

The Haus Of Legends may suspend or close accounts belonging to people who repeatedly infringe other people's copyrights.

We will consider the circumstances rather than treating every complaint as automatic proof of wrongdoing. However, repeated legitimate copyright violations can result in termination of access to community features or closure of an account.

9. A Copyright Complaint Is Serious

Please do not submit a copyright notice simply because you dislike something, disagree with someone, or want content removed for an unrelated reason.

Likewise, do not submit a counter-notice simply because you want material restored.

DMCA notices and counter-notices contain legally significant statements, including statements made under penalty of perjury. Knowingly making material misrepresentations can have legal consequences.

11. Our Own Copyright Claims

The Haus Of Legends creates and publishes artwork, writing, designs, educational resources, publications, photography, music, and other creative material.

We claim copyright only to the extent that copyright or other intellectual-property rights actually apply.

Where material includes AI-assisted creative processes, our claims relate to the human-authored, selected, arranged, edited, written, designed, directed, or otherwise protectable elements to the extent recognized by applicable law.
